Learn about the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Sciences Pathway
at Gaithersburg High School
I would like to thank all the parents who have encouraged and supported their children to apply for acceptance into the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program. We are looking forward to having them join our program. The Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Sciences Pathway is a 4-year sequence of courses supported by Stevenson University. Biomedical Sciences (BMS) courses complement traditional science courses and are designed to prepare students to pursue a post-secondary education and careers in the biomedical sciences.
The PLTW BMS Program courses follow a proven hands-on, real-world problem-solving approach to learning. Students will explore the concepts of human medicine and will be introduced to topics such as physiology, genetics, microbiology and public health. Through activities like dissecting a heart, students will examine the processes, structures and interactions of the human body – often playing the role of biomedical professionals. They will also explore the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, working collaboratively to investigate and design innovative solutions to the health challenges of the 21st century such as fighting cancer with nanotechnology.
Throughout BMS, students will acquire strong teamwork and communication practices, and develop organizational, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills. Along the way students investigate a variety of careers in biomedical sciences. Successful completion of the program can result in transcripted college credit from Stevenson University.
Please join us for an information meeting on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 7:00 pm at Gaithersburg Middle School in the Media Center. At that time, you will have an opportunity to ask questions and meet the staff of the BMS program.
